1. Overview
RowGress is an editorial content site for the sober curious. This Privacy Policy explains what information RowGress collects when you visit rowgress.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have about it.
RowGress is operated by an individual based in Texas, USA. References to “we, ” “us,” “our,” or “RowGress” in this Policy refer to that operator.

2. What we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. Apart from an anonymous identifier issued when you first visit (described below), we store data only when you choose to use a tool that needs it. As of the date above, the data RowGress handles consists of:
An anonymous identifier. When you first visit rowgress.com, our infrastructure provider (Amazon Web Services, via Amazon Cognito Identity Pools) issues an anonymous identifier to your browser and stores it in your browser’s local storage. It is a random string that we never link to your name, email, or phone number. Because it persists across visits and is the key under which the data below is stored, it functions as a first-party identifier for your activity on this site.
Your sober start date, if you set one. When you use the day counter, the date you mark is stored both in your browser’s local storage and in our database (Amazon DynamoDB), associated with your anonymous identifier. The database copy lets the date survive if your local storage is cleared, on the same browser. Because the identifier is tied to your browser, the date does not sync between different devices.
Daily check-ins, if you use the tracker. The values you log each day (mood as a 1 to 5 rating, sleep as a 1 to 5 rating, and whether you exercised) are stored in our database, keyed to your anonymous identifier. Check-ins are stored in the database only; they are not kept in your browser.
Your drinking baseline, if you use the calculator. The figures you enter (your typical number of drinks per week and the price per drink) are stored in our database, keyed to your anonymous identifier, so the calculator can estimate what you have saved. Like check-ins, the baseline is stored in the database, not in your browser.
Web server logs. Our hosting provider (AWS Amplify Hosting) maintains standard web server logs as part of operating the service. These logs typically contain IP addresses, user agent strings, requested URLs, response codes, and timestamps. We do not use these logs for analytics or profiling. They are retained according to our hosting provider’s defaults.
Aggregate analytics.RowGress uses Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google) to understand anonymous, aggregate traffic — for example how many people visit, which pages are read, and roughly where visitors arrive from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and sends usage data (such as pages viewed, an approximate location derived from a truncated IP address, device type, and referring site) to Google, which acts as a third-party processor. We use it only for aggregate measurement. We do not use it to identify you, and we never combine it with your anonymous identifier or the health-related data above.
Cookies and similar storage. RowGress uses browser local storage to remember your sober start date and your anonymous identifier. Amazon Cognito sets a small number of essential cookies to maintain your anonymous session. Google Analytics sets the analytics cookies described above. We do not use advertising cookies or social media tracking pixels.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, date of birth, payment information, government identifiers, biometric data, or precise geolocation. The mood, sleep, exercise, and drinking-baseline values described above are self-reported, and together with your sober start date they are the only health-related information we hold. We treat them as sensitive, collect them only when you enter them, and let you delete them at any time (see Section 6).
3. How we use what we collect
We use the anonymous identifier, your sober start date, your daily check-ins, and your drinking baseline only to provide the tools you choose to use (the day counter, the check-in tracker, and the savings calculator) and to keep them working across sessions on your browser. Server logs are used for operating, securing, and debugging the site.
Beyond the anonymous, aggregate analytics described in Section 2, we do not use any data we collect to build behavioral profiles, to target advertising, or to sell to third parties.
4. Where data lives
All persistent data is stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States. Browser local storage lives on your device.
Other than AWS (which stores the data above) and Google (which receives the anonymous, aggregate analytics described in Section 2), both acting as our service providers, we do not transfer your data to third parties.
5. How long we keep data
Browser local storage persists until you clear it. You can clear it at any time using the controls on the site, your browser’s settings, or by switching browsers or devices.
Server logs are retained per our hosting provider’s defaults, typically 30 to 90 days.
Your anonymous identifier and the data stored under it (your sober start date, check-ins, and drinking baseline) are retained until you delete them. We do not currently expire inactive data automatically. If we add an automatic retention limit in the future, we will describe it here and update the “Last updated” date above.
6. Your rights and choices
You can delete the data stored for your browser at any time using the button below. It removes your sober start date, every daily check-in, and your drinking baseline from both your browser and our database, and forgets your anonymous identifier so a fresh one is issued the next time you use a tool.
You can also clear your sober start date on its own using the “Change start date” option on the day counter, or clear your browser’s local storage manually.
If you would rather we handle deletion, or you have switched browsers and can no longer reach your data, email legal@rowgress.com. Include your anonymous identifier if you have it; if not, we will do our best to honor a request from the same browser session.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including the right to access, correct, or port data, or to object to processing. To exercise any such right, contact legal@rowgress.com.
We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under California law, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Children
RowGress is intended only for adults aged 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has used the site, contact legal@rowgress.com and we will take appropriate steps.
8. International users
RowGress is operated from Texas, USA. If you access rowgress.com from outside the United States, your activity will result in data being processed in the United States. By using the site, you understand and accept this transfer.
We do not target users in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with stricter data protection regimes. If we begin targeting users in those jurisdictions, we will update this Policy.
9. Commercial activity
RowGress currently operates as a free educational resource. We do not run advertising, we do not include affiliate links, we do not accept sponsored content, and we do not sell products or services on the site. If any of this changes in the future, we will update this Policy and provide notice on the site before the change takes effect.
10. Security
We rely on Amazon Web Services’ standard security practices to protect the data we store, and each visitor’s stored data is access-restricted to their own anonymous identifier. No internet service can guarantee perfect security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify affected users to the extent we are able and as required by applicable law.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, post a notice on the site for a reasonable period.
